SURPRISE!

Ben and I have been nonchalantly trying to conceive for a couple months after desperately trying to figure out if we were ready or not (I was ready but Ben needed some convincing...). Our Ben's motto going into this process was "if it happens, great. If not, oh well." Such a typical approach for that man. Naturally, I had been keeping track of EVERYTHING like my usual OCD self would. After realizing my approach was driving me crazy, I ultimately decided to chill out and adopt my wonderful husband's outlook on life. Needless to say, it worked (but we won't tell him that). I took a pregnancy test on March 29, 2014 and it was positive! Leroy was the first to know, of course. He was just as excited as I was when I was prancing/crying/praising God through the hall.

I decided to wrap up the pregnancy gift in a box and give it to my husband when we went out for dinner at Tortilla West--a "Mexican restaurant" (a term used loosely here in the VA since I have yet to find a place that compares to ANY Tex Mex). Before sharing this story, I should preface it by saying that Ben had been looking online for a watch to wear to work. He showed me the model he wanted and I encouraged him to buy it. The man NEVER buys anything for himself and he definitely deserves a random gift here or there. Unbeknownst to me, he purchased the watch online and the arrival date was supposed to be tomorrow. As I handed him the wrapped up pregnancy test, he starts to get worried thinking I bought the same watch for him. Now his story starts to unravel and he reveals to me that he already bought the watch he wanted online and I shouldn't have gone out and done the same thing. So he spent several minutes trying to guess which color watch I chose and getting agitated that I'm not telling him. After minutes of commanding him to just open the dang box he decides he would rather wait until we got home. Now I'm really working on my poker face and doing my best not to explode from excitement and guacamole.

We finally get home. He finally opens his gift. I guess skipping on the alcohol at dinner, pestering him to open his present, and my whipping out my phone to record his reaction, gave away the big reveal. He guessed what it was immediately. He opened the box, read the card that says "Congratulations! You're going to be a daddy!" and kept asking me if this was real. He was extremely excited and a tad confused but all in all, it was a precious moment :)
